About this trip
This is a trek through Manaslu National Park, reached entirely overland without domestic flights, following a trail with far fewer trekkers than Everest Base Camp or the Annapurna Circuit.
You walk through rhododendron forests and lush valleys, with birdlife and butterflies along the way, and the terrain shifting from warm forest to cooler mountain air as you climb.
It's a route into a part of Nepal that still feels remote and little touched by tourism, with a strong sense of local culture along the way.
What you'll do
- Trek through Manaslu National Park's forests and valleys
- Walk a trail far quieter than Everest Base Camp or Annapurna Circuit
- Reach the trailhead overland, no domestic flights needed
- Spot diverse birdlife and butterflies through rhododendron forest
- See the high-altitude waters of Tilicho Lake at 4919 m
- Experience remote mountain villages and local culture
- A high-altitude trek with sustained walking days, suited to those with some hiking fitness
- Runs over Christmas and New Year, so expect cold conditions at altitude
Worth it if you're reasonably fit and want authentic Himalayan trekking with attentive local guides. Think twice if you need flexibility—the itinerary moves at a fixed pace regardless of group speed.
- Pasang Sherpa consistently checked individual acclimatisation and adjusted daily pace to suit the whole group's comfort.
- Dietary requirements, including vegan, were actively accommodated throughout; guides discussed each day's distance beforehand.
- This is a difficult trek requiring good fitness; weather luck plays a role in the quality of mountain views.
- Groups completed the trek early because they moved faster than the standard itinerary; pacing flexibility depends on your guide.
