About this trip
A short hike out of the Kathmandu valley that gets you into hill villages and forest within a few hours of leaving the city, with Himalayan views thrown in at both ends of the day.
You start with a drive to Sundarijal, a green, stream-cut corner of Shivapuri National Park that locals use as a picnic spot, then walk on through to Chisapani and Nagarkot, two ridge villages known for their sunrise and sunset views over the mountains.
It suits three days well if you want a taste of trekking and rural Nepali life without committing to a longer route.
What you'll do
- Drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal on the edge of Shivapuri National Park
- Walk through forest, streams and shaded trails inside the national park
- Overnight in the hill village of Chisapani
- Watch sunset and sunrise from Nagarkot's viewpoints
- Take in Himalayan views along the ridge route
- A short, accessible hike rather than a demanding trek — suits families and first-timers
- Views depend on clear weather, so sunrise and sunset moments aren't guaranteed
