About this trip
Five days in the Annapurna foothills, built around the sunrise from Poon Hill at 3210m, with the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges laid out in front of you.
The route moves through Gurung villages and terraced fields, dropping into rhododendron forest between the viewpoints, so you get culture and landscape in fairly equal measure rather than just miles of trail.
It is a short trek by Himalayan standards, pitched as manageable for most reasonably fit people rather than seasoned mountaineers, so it works if you want a real taste of the Annapurna region without committing to a multi-week expedition.
What you'll do
- Watch sunrise over the Annapurna range from Poon Hill at 3210m
- Walk through Gurung villages and terraced farmland
- Pass through rhododendron forest along the trail
- See close-up views of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre and Manaslu
- A short trek, pitched as suitable for most fitness levels rather than experienced mountaineers only
- Fully guided throughout
- Fits families and groups, not just serious trekkers
Worth it if you want an achievable first trek with genuinely attentive guides and strong logistics. Think twice if you need ironclad service guarantees or have specific accommodation standards.
- Guides Pasang and Nema handle logistics seamlessly: airport pickups, pre-trek briefings, guesthouse quality, meals, and safety gear like crampons in winter conditions.
- Day two is steep with lots of steps to Poon Hill, but moderate fitness plus basic training gets you there; guides actively support nervous first-time trekkers.
- One reviewer reported promised services omitted, unsuitable first night Kathmandu hotel far from centre, unresponsive customer service when raising concerns with Pasang.
- Poon Hill sunrise views and porter company are genuine highlights; bring a light pack and water bottle with filter to refill at local sources.
