About this trip
This trek takes you up to Mardi Himal Base Camp, on the lesser-trodden eastern side of the Annapurna range, with Mt Machhapuchhre's distinctive fishtail peak as a constant companion.
You walk through rhododendron forest and climb steadily from Pothana to Forest Camp, Low Camp, High Camp and finally the base camp itself, with close-up views of Annapurna South, Annapurna I and Machhapuchhre along the way.
It's shorter and gentler than many Annapurna treks, and you get a genuine taste of Gurung village life on the descent through Siding, alongside road transfers between Kathmandu and Pokhara at either end.
What you'll do
- Reach Mardi Himal Base Camp at 4,500m with views of Mardi Himal (5,553m)
- Take in Annapurna South, Annapurna I and Machhapuchhre from High Camp and beyond
- Trek through rhododendron forest via Deurali to Forest Camp at Kokar
- Walk through the Gurung village of Siding and see local life along the trail
- Drive between Kathmandu and Pokhara at the start and end of the trek
- Expect around 5-6 hours of walking per day
- Rated suitable for anyone in average physical condition, no previous trekking experience needed
- Best done in spring or autumn for clearer mountain views
