Poon Hill trek from Pokhara

Start & end in Pokhara 3 days Up to 16

About this trip

A short trek into the Annapurna foothills, built around one early morning climb to Poon Hill for the mountain view it's known for. Three days, two nights, moving through forest trail and village lodges rather than camping.

The route takes you through thick rhododendron forest, moss-covered and especially good if you catch the spring bloom, before the walk up to Poon Hill itself. From there the payoff is a wide sweep of peaks, including Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I and South, Fishtail, Manaslu, Nilgiri and Tukche Peak.

Lodges along the way provide bedding, so you can travel light — this isn't a trek that needs a full camping kit.

What you'll do

  • Sunrise hike to Poon Hill for views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I and South, Fishtail and Manaslu
  • Walk through dense, moss-covered rhododendron forest
  • Overnight stays in trail-side village lodges
  • Two nights, three days of walking through Annapurna foothill terrain
Good to know
  • Best conditions are September to November, with March to May (rhododendron season) a close second
  • Trekkable in winter (December to February), but pack warm clothing for cold, sometimes wet conditions
  • Lodges supply sheets and blankets, so a sleeping bag isn't essential
