About this trip
Ten days from Kathmandu to Everest Base Camp and back, on foot through the Khumbu region that Hillary and Tenzing Norgay once used as their launch point for the summit. This is a proper high-altitude trek, not a stroll — you climb steadily through Sherpa villages, past monasteries and glaciers, with the mountains getting bigger every day.
You fly into Lukla, then walk. The trail passes through Namche Bazaar, the region's main hub, and on to Tengboche with its monastery and views of the surrounding 8000m peaks. Higher up, rhododendron forest gives way to alpine meadows, yak pasture, and eventually the bare, glacial landscape around Base Camp itself.
The early morning climb to Kala Patthar for sunrise over Everest is the trip's high point, quite literally. Sherpa Expedition Teams handle permits, meals, and accommodation along the way, so your job is simply to keep walking and keep acclimatizing.
What you'll do
- Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla to start the trek
- Walk through Namche Bazaar, the gateway town to Everest
- Visit Tengboche Monastery in the heart of Sherpa country
- Reach Everest Base Camp and view the Khumbu Glacier
- Climb to Kala Patthar before dawn for sunrise views of Everest
- Pass through rhododendron forest and spot yak and musk deer en route
- High altitude trekking with real risk of altitude sickness — the itinerary builds in acclimatization days but you should be reasonably fit going in
- Ten days is a fast schedule for EBC, so daily walking hours are long
- Accommodation is teahouse-style along the trail, with meals and permits organized for you
Worth it if you want a well-managed trek with genuinely attentive guides. Think twice if you need flexibility during October weather windows.
- Guide Kumar was exceptional during the October snowstorm, securing base camp access before closures.
- Guides and porters handle everything: acclimatisation advice, clothing, food recs, daily logistics with consistent professionalism.
- Early October brings unpredictable severe weather that can threaten summit windows and require rapid descents.
- Kathmandu office in Thamel with responsive booking communication makes logistics straightforward before departure.
