About this trip
This 12-day trek follows the classic route to Everest Base Camp, the spot where Hillary and Tenzing Norgay planned their historic ascent. You walk through Sagarmatha National Park, crossing glacier terrain and passing through Sherpa villages that have produced some of the world's most respected high-altitude climbers.
The trail builds steadily in altitude, from the flight into Lukla through Namche Bazaar and Tengboche, up to Base Camp itself at 5364m, then on to Kala Patthar for sunrise views over Everest. Along the way you'll spot rhododendrons, musk deer, and yaks grazing on the high pastures.
Sherpa Expedition Teams handle permits, meals, and accommodation throughout, so you can focus on the walking and the altitude.

- Cross sections of the Khumbu Glacier
- This is a high-altitude trek reaching over 5300m, with days spent walking at elevation for prolonged periods

- Suited to those wanting a proper trekking challenge rather than a leisurely walk
Worth it if you're fit, prepared for variable accommodation, and value expert guides. Think twice if you need consistent medical altitude monitoring.
- Guide quality is consistently exceptional; named guides like Pasang, Mindu, Lakpa Sherpa deliver knowledge, encouragement, and cultural insight throughout.
- Equipment provided (sleeping bags rated -20, down coats, duffel bags) is reliable and well-maintained; eliminates major gear rental costs.
- Tea house quality varies significantly; some are noisy, cold, and poorly cleaned despite others being excellent. Standards are inconsistent.
- Altitude monitoring lacks consistency between guides and published medical standards; be prepared to advocate for your own health if concerned.
