About this trip
Fourteen days of trekking through the Khumbu region to Everest Base Camp, following the same route Hillary and Norgay took before their 1953 summit. You start and end in Kathmandu, with a flight into Lukla marking the start of the walk in.
The trek takes you through Sherpa villages, past monasteries and prayer flags, and through forest and gorges as the peaks close in around you. Days are built around walking and acclimatising, with proper rest built in before you push higher.
This is Sagarmatha National Park, a World Heritage site, and the surrounding peaks include four of the world's highest. Guides are government-certified and handle logistics, accommodation, meals, and the Kathmandu-Lukla flights are included.
What you'll do
- Trek to Everest Base Camp via the classic Khumbu route
- Fly in and out of Lukla for a close look at the Himalayan landscape below
- Pass through Sherpa villages and Buddhist monasteries (gompa) in the Solu Khumbu region
- Acclimatise properly at altitude before continuing higher
- See prayer flags, traditional architecture, and daily Sherpa life along the trail
- Walk within Sagarmatha National Park, surrounded by four of the world's highest peaks
- This is a high-altitude trek with built-in acclimatisation days — expect a demanding pace and real elevation gain
- Flights to and from Lukla are weather-dependent, which can affect the schedule
- Suited to those with a reasonable level of fitness rather than complete beginners to trekking
Worth it if you want a properly guided, well-organised trek with strong logistics support. Think twice if you expect a relaxed pace—the standard itinerary pushes hard on descent and requires fitness.
- Sherpa Expeditions guides (Furinji, Kumar, Rinji, Ram) consistently create safe, flexible treks tailored to individual pace and fitness.
- Company handles logistics brilliantly: equipment loans, fair-price gear shopping, airport transfers, responsive WhatsApp support within minutes.
- Descent itinerary doubles daily distance some days—plan extra time if you want comfort and sightseeing, not just speed.
- Hotel arrangements in Kathmandu described as poor; focus your preparation on the trek itself, not pre-trek accommodation.
