About this trip
A 13-day trek around the Annapurna massif, crossing the high-altitude Thorong La Pass and taking in Poonhill's sunrise views over the mountains. You start from Besisahar and work your way through subtropical forest and river valleys before climbing into thinner, harsher terrain near the Tibetan plateau.
The route mixes big landscapes with everyday life along the trail — rice terraces, oak and rhododendron forest, and villages where Hindu lowland culture gives way to Buddhist influence higher up. You'll pass through Manang, Muktinath and Jomsom before finishing in Pokhara and Kathmandu.
Nights are spent in teahouses in small mountain villages, which keeps things simple and puts you in close contact with local life and the rest of your group.
What you'll do
- Cross Thorong La Pass at 5416m
- Visit Poonhill for sunrise over the Annapurna Massif
- Walk through the Kali Gandaki gorge between Dhaulagiri and Annapurna
- Visit the pilgrimage temple at Muktinath
- Stay in teahouses in small Himalayan villages
- Unwind by Phewa Lake in Pokhara after the trek
- Moderately challenging — long daily distances for two weeks, with a steep climb to Thorong La as the toughest section
- Teahouse accommodation is basic, usually twin wooden-bench beds with shared bathrooms; en-suite rooms aren't guaranteed
- Extras like wifi, charging and hot showers often cost more and aren't always included in the meal budget
Worth it if you're physically prepared for a genuine mountain challenge with excellent guides. Think twice if you need luxury comfort or dislike steep, sustained climbing.
- Guides are genuinely knowledgeable, attentive and make the trek feel safer and more rewarding throughout.
- The scenery—remote villages, forests, snow peaks—delivers the postcard Himalayan landscape most people dream of.
- Trek is legitimately physically demanding and hard; good fitness and mental preparation are essential, not optional.
- Peregrine Treks consistently delivers what's promised; booking is straightforward and staff quality stands out from other operators.
