About this trip
This 13-day trek takes you through the Annapurna region to the base of the tenth-highest mountain on earth, walking through terraced farmland, forest, and Gurung and Magar villages before reaching the amphitheatre of peaks at Annapurna Base Camp itself.
Poon Hill is folded into the route as an early highlight, giving you a sunrise panorama over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges before the trail climbs deeper into the sanctuary, past Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and through changing terrain and altitude.
It's as much about the villages and cultures along the way as the mountains — you pass through communities of several different ethnic groups, staying in teahouses and getting a real sense of daily life in the hills as well as the scenery.
What you'll do
- Watch sunrise over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges from Poon Hill
- Trek to Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 metres
- Pass beneath Mt Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), one of the region's most striking peaks
- Walk through Gurung, Magar, Manangi and Thakali villages
- Cross terraced fields, forest and high mountain terrain in a single trek
- Start and finish around Phedi or Nayapul, reached by road from the lowlands
- A long trek at altitude — you gain and lose height daily and need a reasonable level of fitness
- Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) give the most reliable weather; winter is colder and icier but quieter with clearer skies
- Suits solo travellers and groups alike, including those trekking for the first time
