About this trip

This is a long overland route through Vietnam and Cambodia, running from Hanoi down to Siem Reap over 19 days. You get a proper north-to-south sweep of Vietnam — mountains, karst scenery, coast and cities — before crossing into Cambodia for the finish.

Expect a mix of guided stops and free time as you move through Sapa's terraced hills, the limestone rivers of Ninh Binh, Halong Bay, old town Hoi An and the pace of Ho Chi Minh City, with Angkor Wat as the closing highlight.

What you'll do

  • Wander Hanoi's old quarter
  • Walk the rice terraces around Sapa and meet local ethnic minority communities
  • Cruise the limestone islands of Halong Bay
  • Explore the lantern-lit streets of Hoi An's ancient town
  • Visit the Cu Chi Tunnels outside Ho Chi Minh City
  • See the temples of Angkor Wat in Siem Reap
Good to know
  • Covers a lot of ground in 19 days, with a new base every few nights through much of Vietnam
  • Partially guided, so some sections you're exploring on your own
  • Runs across two countries, ending in Cambodia rather than back where you started
