Exploring Ecuador: Cloud Forest, Highlands & Amazon Rainforest

Start & end in Quito 13 days Up to 16

About this trip

Ecuador packs an unusual amount of variety into a small country, and this 13-day loop from Quito is built to show you most of it: cloud forest, volcanic highlands, colonial city streets, and the Amazon itself.

You will move through misty hills at Mindo, market stalls in Otavalo, the volcanic drama of Cotopaxi and Quilotoa, and the waterfall town of Baños, before heading into the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve for four days of proper jungle time.

It is a fully guided group trip with a moderate pace, better suited to those happy to hike, travel by canoe, and swap comfort for the chance to see genuinely wild places.

What you'll do

  • Spot hummingbirds in Mindo's cloud forest reserves
  • Browse the market stalls of Plaza de Ponchos in Otavalo
  • Hike to the rim of the Quilotoa crater lake
  • Explore Cotopaxi National Park's volcanic scenery
  • Chase waterfalls around adventure-hub Baños
  • Spend four days in the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve with canoe trips, wildlife watching and visits to indigenous communities
Good to know
  • Altitude varies a lot — you go from highland volcanoes to lowland rainforest, so pack for both cold and humid heat
  • The Quilotoa hike and jungle days mean a reasonable level of fitness helps
  • Four days in Cuyabeno means basic jungle-lodge living, not luxury
