About this trip
Eight days through southern Utah, covering all five of the state's national parks: Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon and Zion. This is a road trip built around hiking and scenery, moving between parks with a small group and a private guide.
Expect red rock canyons, sandstone arches, hoodoos and long views, with time on trails as well as at overlooks. The group stays capped at 14, so it's a manageable size for a week of shared driving and hiking.
Local food stops and lesser-known spots are worked in alongside the big-name viewpoints, so it's not just a checklist of the famous five.
What you'll do
- See Delicate Arch and other formations in Arches National Park
- Take in the canyon views from Island in the Sky in Canyonlands
- Drive the scenic route through Capitol Reef
- Walk among the hoodoos in Bryce Canyon's amphitheatre
- Hike part of Zion National Park's trail network
- Stop at local eateries and smaller sights along the way
- Five national parks in 8 days means a fast pace with regular travel days between stops
- Group size is capped at 14 with a private guide throughout
- Hiking is central to the trip, so a reasonable level of fitness helps
Worth it if you want expert-guided park access with real hiking options for mixed abilities. Think twice if you dislike long van days—six parks in eight days means significant driving.
- Guides genuinely adapt hikes by ability; they encourage without pushing unsafe, read limitations early on.
- Hotels, food, and logistics handled throughout; nothing to organise means pure focus on parks and scenery.
- Substantial van time required to cover all five parks in the timeframe; unavoidable but worth knowing.
- Hiking difficulty genuinely varies; a 77-year-old found some demanding, so assess your fitness honestly first.
