About this trip

This is a private, fully guided journey through the heart of Thailand, from Bangkok's temples and canals up to the hill country around Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai. Ten days gives you room to move from old-city sightseeing to riverside history to mountain temples without rushing.

You'll spend early days in and around Bangkok, taking in the Grand Palace, canal life and the markets, then head out to Kanchanaburi for the River Kwai and the Death Railway before the World Heritage ruins at Ayutthaya. The second half heads north to the Golden Triangle, Chiang Rai's temple art and Chiang Mai's Lanna heritage.

As a private tour it's built around you rather than a fixed group, with an easy pace suited to travellers who want to see a lot of Thailand without a punishing schedule.

What you'll do

  • Explore Bangkok's Grand Palace, Emerald Buddha, Wat Pho and Wat Arun, plus a canal boat tour
  • Ride the rails at Maeklong Train Market and browse Damnoen Saduak Floating Market
  • Visit the War Cemetery, JEATH Museum and cross the Bridge over the River Kwai, with a ride on the Death Railway
  • Wander the World Heritage ruins of Ayutthaya
  • See the Golden Triangle, House of Opium and Chiang Saen, plus Chiang Rai's Blue Temple, White Temple and Baan Dam Museum
  • Take in Chiang Mai's Doi Suthep, Wat Phra Sing and Wat Chedi Luang, and spend time at Kanta Elephant Sanctuary
Good to know

  • Rated easy, with a broad sightseeing itinerary covering Bangkok, Kanchanaburi, Ayutthaya, Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai
  • Runs over Christmas and New Year, so worth planning around holiday travel
