About this trip

A week based in Kuala Lumpur that mixes guided city sightseeing with some time to explore on your own, taking in the capital's landmarks alongside a couple of day trips further afield.

Expect a mix of temples, towers, and cruises — from the limestone caves on the city's edge to a lake cruise in Putrajaya and a firefly-lit river dinner. There's also a cultural night show and a layover cruise experience from Port Klang thrown into the week.

It's an easy-paced, partially guided trip, so some days follow a set itinerary and others leave room to wander KL at your own speed.

What you'll do

  • Visit the Batu Caves and their Hindu shrines
  • Take a scenic lake cruise in Putrajaya
  • Dine on fresh seafood by a firefly-lit river
  • Take in views over KL from the KL Tower
  • Watch a cultural night show
  • Experience a cruise layover from Port Klang
Good to know
  • Partially guided — some days are structured, others are free time in the city
  • Easy pace, suited to families and first-time visitors to KL
  • Based in one city for the week, with day trips rather than constant travel

  1. Arrival to Kuala Lumpur — Kuala Lumpur

You'll be driven to your hotel, with check-in available from 14:00. The rest of the day is yours to explore Kuala Lumpur at your own pace—wander the city's cityscapes, hit the nearby beaches, or just settle in and get your bearings.

  2. A full day tour takes you to Batu Caves, the sacred Hindu site that's one of the city's major draws. You'll explore Kuala Lumpur's architectural contrasts—where colonial, oriental, Moorish and Islamic influences sit side by side—before heading out for a fireflies boat ride and seafood dinner.

  3. Visit Putrajaya, Malaysia's ultra-modern administrative capital and 'Smart City in a Garden' built along the Multimedia Super Corridor. You'll see the city's urban planning and landmarks, then continue with a lake cruise before returning to explore Kuala Lumpur itself, with all entrance fees included.

  4. This comprehensive city tour covers the major sights: Petronas Twin Towers, Batu Caves, King's Palace, National Monument, Old Railway Station, National Mosque, Independence Square, Thean Hou Temple, Lake Gardens and Parliament House. You'll also visit KL Tower's observation deck for views across the city.

  5. Departing from Port Klang, this heritage tour traces Kuala Lumpur's journey from jungle settlement and rainforest villages to modern capital. You'll see how colonial buildings and mosques with slender minarets stand alongside contemporary skyscrapers in this multicultural city of over 1.6 million people.

  6. An evening immersion in Malaysian culture starts at Petaling Street Night Market in Chinatown, where street food and bargains dominate. Next is Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, Kuala Lumpur's oldest Hindu temple from 1873, followed by a buffet dinner and cultural show showcasing the city's diverse heritage.

  7. After breakfast, your driver collects you for the transfer to Kuala Lumpur International Airport. Check out by noon—late check-out is available only if you arrange it in advance.
