Jordan crams a lot into a small space, and this week takes you through most of it. You start in Amman, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities anywhere, then work your way south through Roman ruins, desert canyons and the Dead Sea.
The pace is steady rather than rushed, with a good mix of ancient history and outdoor adventure. A jeep safari into Wadi Rum breaks up the ruins, and Petra gets the time it deserves before you finish by floating in the Dead Sea.
