About this trip
Three weeks through Rajasthan, India's largest state and the historic land of maharajas, where forts and palaces still shape the skyline of every town you pass through.
The route runs from Delhi and Agra into Jaipur, out to the desert city of Jaisalmer near the Pakistan border, then down to Udaipur — a proper cross-section of the state, not just the well-worn triangle.
Along the way you get to stay inside some of the heritage buildings themselves, with old forts and palaces converted into hotels, so the sense of history isn't just something you look at from outside.
What you'll do
- See the Taj Mahal in Agra
- Explore the forts and old city of Jaipur
- Cross the Thar Desert to Jaisalmer
- Wander the lakeside city of Udaipur
- Sleep in a converted heritage palace or fort hotel
- Take in Delhi's mix of old and new city
- A long 21-day tour covering a wide stretch of Rajasthan, so expect a fair amount of ground travel between stops
- Suited to those who want real depth on Rajasthan rather than a quick highlights run
- Runs over Christmas and New Year, worth checking exact dates if that matters to you
