About this trip
Ten days deep into the Kimberley, one of Australia's most remote corners, travelling by 4WD from Broome to Darwin along the Gibb River Road.
You spend your days on rugged tracks and short hikes, swimming beneath waterfalls, walking through gorges, and camping under the stars in between. It's a proper outback trip rather than a comfortable coach tour, with the landscape doing most of the talking.
The route takes in the Bungle Bungles, Lake Argyle, and the Katherine region before finishing in Darwin, with plenty of ground covered along the way.
What you'll do
- Walk through the underground passages of Tunnel Creek
- Take in the cliffs of Windjana and Bell Gorges
- Drive the Gibb River Road and swim at Manning and Emma Gorges
- Hike among the sandstone domes of the Bungle Bungles, with an optional scenic helicopter flight
- Camp out and watch the sunset over the Kimberley
- Visit Lake Argyle and the Ord River on the way to Darwin
- Travel is by 4WD over rough outback roads, with camping most nights
- Days involve hiking and swimming, so a reasonable level of fitness helps
- The helicopter flight over the Bungle Bungles is an optional extra
