About this trip
Twelve days across Kenya and Tanzania, taking in six of East Africa's best-known parks and reserves. You move between the Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Amboseli, the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire, each with its own character and wildlife.
The Mara gives you a strong chance of spotting lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rhino, and if you're travelling between July and October you may also catch the wildebeest and zebra migration. Amboseli pairs its elephant herds with views of Kilimanjaro on a clear day, while Lake Nakuru draws huge flocks of flamingos and a long list of other bird species.
It's a proper cross-border safari circuit, built around game drives and the changing landscapes of the Rift Valley, the Serengeti plains and the Ngorongoro highlands.
What you'll do
- Track the Big 5 on game drives in the Masai Mara
- Watch flamingos and other birdlife at Lake Nakuru
- See elephant herds with Kilimanjaro as a backdrop in Amboseli
- Explore the plains of the Serengeti
- Descend into Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive
- Spot wildlife in Tarangire
- Covers two countries and multiple parks, so expect long driving days between destinations
- Wildebeest and zebra migration is only in the Mara from roughly July to October
- Wildlife sightings, including the Big 5, are likely but never guaranteed
Worth it if you prioritise Kenya's wildlife and guides. Think twice if you need seamless organisation across both countries or prefer Tanzania.
- Kenya driver John was exceptional: great English, knew best animal spots, checked group comfort constantly.
- Tanzania organised by separate company; poor communication, delays, reduced safaris, drunk driver incident on day 8.
- Park fees £520–800 extra, not included. Itinerary advertises Lake Naivasha sailing and walking safari that aren't actually part of tour.
- Kenya delivers roughly 25 hours safari and all Big Five sightings; Tanzania section noticeably lower quality despite iconic parks.
