About this trip
An 8-day road cycling trip through Albania, taking in mountains, coastline and history that most travellers never see. You ride through a country shaped by Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman influence, with plenty of time off the bike to take it in.
The route links three UNESCO sites — Lake Ohrid, Butrint and Gjirokaster — alongside stretches of the Ionian coast where evenings are built for slowing down and watching the sun go down.
This is a guided group trip with private rooms, suited to riders who want a proper cycling challenge but also want to actually see and understand the places they're passing through.
What you'll do
- Road cycle through Albania's mountains and coastline
- Visit the UNESCO-listed Lake Ohrid
- Explore the ancient ruins of Butrint
- Ride to and explore the historic town of Gjirokaster
- Evenings by the Ionian Sea
- Moderate pace — suited to riders with some cycling fitness rather than complete beginners
- Private rooms throughout, not shared dorms
Worth it if you want stunning Balkan scenery, excellent guiding, and remarkable value. Think twice if you need guaranteed flat terrain or prefer independent travel.
- Guide Arjan consistently praised for route curation, logistics, safety protocols, and keeping 12-person groups engaged and comfortable throughout.
- E-bikes let you control effort daily; mixed mountain and coastal routes; hotels and meals first-rate but notably affordable compared to Western Europe.
- Early May timing delivers perfect weather; tour structure (breakfast, ride, coffee, ride, lunch, ride, arrive late afternoon) suits steady cyclists.
- No reviews mention terrain difficulty explicitly, but mountain routes and staged daily riding suggest moderate fitness required; verify before booking.
