About this trip
Four days based in Whitehorse, the Yukon's small, mountain-ringed capital, built around a straightforward goal: giving you the best possible shot at seeing the Northern Lights.
Each evening you head just outside the city, far enough from the streetlights, to the AuroraCentre, where you wait for the sky to do its thing beside a wood stove or campfire rather than standing out in the cold.
Days are left open. You can use the time for optional sightseeing, shopping or touring around Whitehorse, or simply rest up before the next night's viewing.
What you'll do
- Multiple nights of Northern Lights viewing at the AuroraCentre outside Whitehorse
- Watch for the aurora beside a wood stove or open campfire
- Explore Whitehorse, the Yukon's capital, surrounded by mountains
- Free days for optional winter activities and shopping in town
- Easy-paced trip — days are unstructured and evenings are for aurora viewing, so it suits those who want to relax rather than keep busy
- Northern Lights sightings depend on weather and solar activity and can't be guaranteed on any given night
- Based in one location throughout, so no packing up and moving base
Worth it if you're prepared for brutal sleep deprivation and want genuinely excellent guides in remote aurora viewing. Think twice if you need comfort, flexible pacing, or guaranteed northern lights sightings.
- Guides consistently praised for friendliness, knowledge, and practical help with camera settings for aurora photography.
- Schedule is grueling with minimal sleep across four days; first full day crams city tour, wildlife preserve, and hot springs together.
- Food logistics problematic: limited restaurant hours at accommodation, walking in extreme cold impractical, no packed lunch option offered.
- Aurora viewing not guaranteed; basic outhouse facilities at Aurora Centre lack comfort and safety features like rubber mats.
