About this trip
Four days based in Whitehorse, with evenings given over to Northern Lights watching from the AuroraCentre just outside town, away from the city glow.
You'll settle in beside a wood stove or campfire on successive nights, waiting for the aurora, and spend a day at the Yukon Wildlife Preserve looking for animals from bison to lynx in their natural surroundings.
Pace is easy, with free time built in to explore Whitehorse itself, whether that's shopping, sightseeing or just resting up between late nights under the sky.
What you'll do
- Watch for the Northern Lights over consecutive evenings at the AuroraCentre outside Whitehorse
- Warm up by a wood stove or campfire while you wait for the aurora
- Spot and photograph Dall sheep, wood bison, musk-ox, lynx and other wildlife at the Yukon Wildlife Preserve
- Explore Whitehorse, the Yukon's capital, surrounded by mountains
- Use free days for optional winter sightseeing or shopping in town
- Easy pace with private rooms and free time built into the itinerary
- Aurora viewing depends on clear skies and is not guaranteed on any given night
- Best suited to those happy with a relaxed schedule rather than constant activity
Worth it if you're chasing northern lights and can handle back-to-back activities on minimal sleep. Think twice if you need downtime, flexible meal timing, or aren't prepared for extreme cold.
- Guides consistently praised by name (Lawrence, Kim, Mariko) for friendliness, knowledge, and camera help.
- Northern lights viewing and wildlife preserve genuinely delivered; hot springs and Aurora Centre were standout highlights.
- Grueling schedule packed with city tour, wildlife, hot springs on day one leaves little sleep and no time to adjust to time zone.
- Limited restaurant hours at accommodation; no meal provisions for tight itinerary gaps; outhouses at Aurora Centre are basic.
