About this trip
Six days covering the north's big three: Hanoi, Sapa and Halong Bay. It moves fast, but each stop gives you something distinct rather than a rushed drive-by.
You start in Hanoi getting stuck into its food and street life, then head up to Sapa for trekking through terraced valleys and ethnic villages, with the option to take on Fansipan itself. The trip winds down with an overnight cruise on Halong Bay before heading back to Hanoi.
What you'll do
- Explore Hanoi's old quarter and try local food
- Trek through Sapa's rice terraces and ethnic minority villages
- Take on Fansipan, the highest peak in Indochina
- Cruise overnight on Halong Bay's waters
- Return to Hanoi to wrap up the trip
- Fast-paced — six days across three very different regions
- Involves genuine trekking in Sapa, so some fitness helps
- Partially guided, with room for independent exploring in Hanoi
Worth it if you're flexible with logistics and get a strong guide. Think twice if tight schedules and seamless coordination are non-negotiable.
- Ha Long Bay cruise genuinely excellent with good boat, food, and breathtaking scenery that justifies the trip.
- Guide quality wildly inconsistent: Hanoi guide Mr Tung excellent, but Ninh Binh guide arrived over an hour late with poor English and disorganisation.
- Logistics hiccups happen: train tickets not pre-provided, wrong hotel for Sapa check-in before hike, inefficient transport routing.
- Hannah Phi's customer service genuinely responsive and helpful with problems, including retrieving left items next day.
