About this trip
Eight days across Senegal, starting in the bustle of Dakar and working through the north, the interior and the coast rather than staying put in the capital.
You take in colonial history in Saint Louis, wetland birdlife at Djoudj, the religious significance of Touba, and the unusual sight of Pink Lake and its salt harvesters, before slowing down for wildlife at Bandia and beach time at Saly.
It's a broad, varied route rather than a deep dive into one region — culture, history, nature and coast all get a look in over the week.
What you'll do
- Explore Goree Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site off Dakar
- See the salt harvesters at work on Pink Lake
- Spot birdlife at the Djoudj National Park sanctuary
- Visit Saint Louis, Senegal's former colonial capital
- Walk the shell island at Joal-Fadiouth
- Look for wildlife at Bandia Game Reserve before finishing on Saly Beach
- Covers a lot of ground in eight days, moving between city, wetland, religious sites and coast
- Ends with beach time at Saly rather than more sightseeing
