Manaslu Circuit Trekking

Start & end in Kathmandu 16 days Up to 20

About this trip

A 16-day circuit around Mt Manaslu, the world's eighth highest mountain, through the remote Gorkha district in Nepal's mid-west Himalaya. You walk from warm lowland villages up through forest and high pasture to the ice and rock of the Larke La pass, with the mountain rarely out of view.

The route passes through Buddhist farming villages with a strong old-Tibetan character, a change of pace and culture from the more trodden Everest and Annapurna trails. Days are spent walking, with views opening up across the Manaslu, Ganesh, Lamjung and Annapurna ranges as you climb.

This is a serious trek rather than a gentle walk — you gain real altitude and cross a high pass, so a fair level of fitness and some trekking experience will help you enjoy it rather than endure it.

What you'll do

  • Circle Mt Manaslu, the world's eighth highest mountain, on foot
  • Cross the high Larke La pass into the Manang region
  • Walk through rhododendron forest, spectacular if you time it for spring bloom
  • Visit Buddhist farming villages with centuries-old traditions in the Manaslu valleys
  • Take in views of Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Lamjung and the Annapurna range along the way
Good to know
  • A high-altitude trek with a demanding pass crossing — come with decent fitness and ideally prior trekking experience
  • Terrain shifts from warm lowland villages to cold, glaciated high ground, so pack for a wide range of conditions
  • Fully guided throughout, with the route staying in and around remote farming villages rather than towns
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want a well-organised, porter-guided circuit with strong logistical support. Think twice if you need flexibility or travel outside October–November.

  • Guides Rakesh, Bhabanath, and Ashok consistently praised for knowledge, friendliness, and professionalism throughout the trek.
  • Full-package pricing covers permits, all meals, tea houses, transport, equipment, and Kathmandu hotel—nothing left to sort.
  • Weather and views highly dependent on season; off-peak trekking possible but carries weather risk despite careful planning.
  • No mention of group dynamics or social fit—solo travellers may or may not gel with assigned companions.
