A Week in Jordan

Amman → Jerusalem 8 days Up to 18

About this trip

Eight days across Jordan on a budget-conscious, fully guided tour that covers the big names and a few quieter corners in between. You start in Amman, taking in the Baptism Site and the hillside town of As-Salt before working through the city's own history and the Roman ruins at Jerash.

From there you head south along the King's Highway, crossing wadis and passing olive groves and farmland on the way to Madaba's mosaics, the view from Mount Nebo, and the Crusader castle at Kerak. Petra gets a full day, with a guided walk through the site and free time to climb to the Monastery or the High Place of Sacrifice.

The second half is desert and water — a night in a Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum with a jeep safari, floating in the Dead Sea, and a final day around Amman's Umayyad desert castles and the Azraq and Shaumari reserves, where Arabian oryx and migratory birds live among the dunes.

What travellers actually say

Worth it if you enjoy driving days to see spectacular ancient sites and get a brilliant guide. Think twice if you need luxury hotels or expect everything to run seamlessly.

  • Guide quality is genuinely exceptional—Amer and Eddy described as knowledgeable, flexible, and game-changing to the experience.
  • Wadi Rum overnight and Petra are genuinely breathtaking highlights; the Monastery views particularly mentioned as stunning.
  • Airport meet-and-greet is unreliable; multiple reviewers report no one showing up despite other positive logistics.
  • A lot of driving packed into one week; some hotels had broken facilities like hot water and elevators.
