Maldive Dhoni Cruise

Start & end in Male 8 days Up to 15

About this trip

Eight days aboard a traditional Maldivian dhoni, moving slowly between the atolls of South Male, Felidhoo and Vaavu. This is a boat-based trip built around water, sun and doing very little else.

Days settle into a rhythm of swimming, snorkelling and time on deck, with the option to sleep out under the stars rather than in your cabin. You'll visit islands well away from the resort circuit, including small fishing communities where daily life still runs on its own terms.

It's a slow, warm-water trip rather than an action-packed one — good for anyone who wants the Maldives without the resort price tag or the crowds.

What you'll do

  • Island hop by traditional dhoni through South Male, Felidhoo and Vaavu atolls
  • Daily snorkelling stops to spot rays, turtles and clownfish
  • Swim off remote beaches away from the resort islands
  • Sleep on deck under the stars as an alternative to your cabin
  • Visit a traditional Maldivian fishing community
Good to know
  • Slow-paced, with plenty of unstructured time to swim and relax
  • Accommodation is a shared dhoni boat, with deck sleeping optional
  • Suits travellers who want low-key beach and reef time over a packed itinerary
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you're a keen snorkeller wanting wildlife encounters and quality food. Think twice if you need land-based activities or prefer faster-paced itineraries.

  • Snorkelling is genuinely world-class: dolphins, whale sharks, turtles, vibrant reefs and bioluminescent swimming.
  • Chef-prepared food on board is a standout feature, consistently praised across reviews.
  • Guide and crew are knowledgeable, supportive and genuinely skilled at finding wildlife.
  • Trip is snorkelling-heavy with a relaxed pace; limited mention of other activities or exploration options.
