About this trip
This is a trek into the Gojal region of upper Hunza, climbing to the Patundas pasture at over 4500m, where a wide plateau opens onto a panorama of some of the Karakoram's biggest peaks.
Getting there means crossing the Passu glacier and camping at Lazdhar before the final hike up. It is a strenuous route with a technical glacier crossing, though no crampons or ice axe are needed, just proper grip trekking shoes and steady footing.
Once up top, you are surrounded by 7000m giants — Batura, Passu Peak, Distaghil Sar, Momhil Sar, Rakaposhi and more — with the Batura and Passu glaciers spread out on either side. The high altitude also makes for clear, dark skies for stargazing.

- The glacier crossing is the technical part of the trek, with some crevassed and slippery sections — solid trekking shoes with good grip are essential
- Best visited July to August for milder temperatures and a green pasture, though the wider window runs June to October
- Nights are cold even in summer and turn especially harsh after late September, so warm clothing and a raincoat are worth packing
