California Dreaming: Yosemite, Death Valley & Coastal Camping

Los Angeles → Las Vegas 7 days Up to 13

About this trip

Seven days on the road from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, taking in the coast, the mountains and the desert in between. Expect long drives, changing scenery and nights spent camping under properly dark skies.

You'll head up the Pacific Coast Highway before turning inland to Yosemite, where waterfalls and giant sequoias give way to the stark, otherworldly landscape of Death Valley. It's a trip built around contrasts, and around getting outside rather than sitting in a bus.

It ends in Las Vegas, a sharp switch from campsite mornings to neon nights, and a fitting last stop after a week of open road.

What you'll do

  • Drive the Pacific Coast Highway out of Los Angeles
  • Camp beneath dark skies in the desert
  • Walk among waterfalls and sequoia trees in Yosemite National Park
  • Take in the vast, otherworldly scenery of Death Valley
  • Finish the trip in Las Vegas
Good to know
  • Camping-based trip, so expect a hands-on, outdoors style rather than hotel comfort
  • Moderate hiking pace with some longer travel days between stops
  • Partially guided, so there's a mix of led activities and time to explore on your own
