About this trip
This 14-day trek takes you from Kathmandu to Pokhara and up through the Annapurna Sanctuary to the base camp of the world's tenth-highest mountain. You walk through terraced farmland, rhododendron forest and alpine pasture, with the scale of the surrounding peaks growing with every day.
Along the way you pass through villages where different ethnic communities live, and stop at Ghorepani and Poon Hill for one of the classic sunrise views over the Annapurna range. The route also gives you time in Pokhara itself, with its lakeside setting and easier pace before and after the trek.
It is a moderate-grade trek done as part of a small group, with local guiding support rather than a fully independent walk.
What you'll do
- Trek to Annapurna Base Camp beneath Annapurna I, Machhapuchhre and Hiunchuli
- Watch sunrise over the Annapurna range from Poon Hill
- Walk through rhododendron forest and high pasture inside the Annapurna Sanctuary
- Pass through ethnic villages and see local ways of life along the trail
- Spend time in Pokhara on Phewa Lake before or after the trek
- Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara through terraced farmland and mustard fields
- Graded moderate — you should have some hiking fitness before starting
- Partially guided, so expect some independence alongside group support
- Also runs over Christmas and New Year for those wanting to trek through the holidays
Worth it if you value guide quality and logistical reliability. Think twice if you need clarity on pre-trek logistics and prefer guaranteed private rooms.
- Guides (Ganga, Ganesh, Narayan) consistently went beyond basics: entertainment, cultural education, real friendship, genuine care for your wellbeing.
- Strong teahouse relationships mean you'll likely get actual rooms at base camp whilst other groups sleep in tents or sheds.
- Shared accommodation on more nights than expected; single rooms not guaranteed, though reviewers report groups got along well.
- Pre-trek briefing meeting arrangements and group introductions could be clearer; one reviewer found the handover process informal.
