About this trip
This ten-day package pairs a Cape Town base with a guided sweep through the Garden Route, giving you both city time and wilderness in one trip.
You spend the first five days in and around Cape Town, with guided day trips out to the Cape Peninsula and the Winelands for tastings, plus a hop-on-hop-off bus pass to explore the city itself at your own pace.
The second half is a five-day guided run through the Garden Route — national parks, game drives and coastal stops — covering around 2,200km in total, with several long driving days to reach each highlight.
What you'll do
- Explore Cape Town by hop-on-hop-off bus, taking in Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch Gardens and the V&A Waterfront
- Guided day trips through the Cape Peninsula and Cape Winelands with wine tastings and pairings
- Safari drive in Addo Elephant National Park plus a 4x4 game drive
- Visit the Cango Caves and Knysna Heads
- Taste your way along Route 62, the world's longest wine route
- Optional extras include bungy jumping from the world's highest commercial bridge, waterfall ziplining and surfing in J'Bay
- Fast-paced — expect 200 to 500km and 4 to 6 hours of driving most days on the Garden Route leg
- Small group tours with up to 25 people per vehicle, sometimes running as multiple vehicles together
- Minimum age is 10, and travellers aged 10 to 17 must be accompanied by an adult
Worth it if you want hassle-free access to Cape Town, Winelands, and Garden Route with strong guides and solid logistics. Think twice if winter travel appeals or you're set on Franschhoek specifically.
- Guides consistently named as standouts—Isaac, TK, Uriel, Maudi—delivering history, culture, and genuine care for group comfort.
- Logistics handling is genuinely impressive: itinerary coordination, last-minute switches, transfers, and multiple operators orchestrated smoothly.
- Itinerary can shift: one group lost Franschhoek for four Stellenbosch wineries. Accommodation quality varies; at least one reviewer flagged poor winter suitability.
- Spring and early autumn preferred; winter accommodation and conditions mentioned as suboptimal by multiple travellers.
