About this trip
Eight days moving through northern Morocco's cities and towns, from the Atlantic port of Tangier to the blue streets of Chefchaouen, the sacred town of Moulay Idriss, the Roman ruins at Volubilis, medieval Fes and the noise and colour of Marrakech.
It's a trip built around contrasts — quiet hillside towns one day, the crowded energy of Djemaa el-Fna the next. A homestay in Moulay Idriss gives you a closer look at local life alongside the sightseeing.
Expect a good amount of ground covered by train and road as you move between bases, with each stop offering something different in look and pace.
What you'll do
- Wander the blue-washed streets of Chefchaouen
- Homestay experience in the sacred town of Moulay Idriss
- Watch the sunset over the Roman ruins of Volubilis
- Explore the medieval medina of Fes
- Take in the sights and sounds of Djemaa el-Fna in Marrakech
- Walk the port city of Tangier
- Involves train travel between cities, sometimes at busy periods — pack light so you can move through stations easily
- If travelling during Ramadan, some restaurants and cafes may be closed in the daytime and your leader may adjust the itinerary accordingly
Worth it if you're after authentic Morocco on a budget and value a good guide. Think twice if comfortable accommodation matters more than experiences.
- Guides consistently excellent and knowledgeable; Mustapha, Hamza, Mohammed, Aatmane all singled out for care and local insight.
- Accommodation regularly 2-star, no hot water some nights, no fridges or safes, firm beds. Single supplement breached without warning.
- Day one in Casablanca is filler—just lunch at mediocre restaurant. Tangier stop so rushed you don't actually see it.
- Second-class train included on 7-hour journeys; upgrade to 1st class costs extra fifteen euros despite being barely affordable.
