Four days into the Red Centre, covering Kings Canyon, Kata Tjuta and Uluru with the landscapes doing most of the talking between long, sparse drives.
You camp at semi-permanent tented sites with stretcher beds rather than bare ground, and a guided First Nations experience at Simpsons Gap adds context to the culture behind the landscape. Days start early to catch the light at its best, and everyone pitches in with camp chores and loading the bus.
It's a hands-on, group-effort kind of trip rather than a soft-adventure one — you're not roughing it entirely, but you are sharing facilities, helping with meals, and covering serious distances to fit it all into four days.
