   Day 1 · DarwinDarwin

   Arrive in Darwin (Gulumoerrgin in Larrakia language), the Traditional Custodian land. Meet your leader and group at 6 pm. Pre-meeting, explore the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory or WWII Oil Storage Tunnels along the waterfront, then grab dinner with the group.

   Day 2 · Kakadu National ParkKakadu National Park

   

   Drive to Mamukala Wetlands or Fog Dam in UNESCO-listed Kakadu National Park to spot water pythons, birds, crocodiles and turtles. Visit Ubirr rock art site for a walk through galleries showing early interactions with non-Aboriginal people, then head to Jabiru for the next few nights.

   Day 3 · Kakadu National ParkKakadu National Park

   Explore Kakadu's concentrated rock art. Walk through woodlands to Nanguluwurr, then continue to Burrungkuy (Nourlangie Rock) to see Namarrgon the lightning man painting and multiple cave rooms with different art styles.

   Day 4 · Arnhem Land Wilderness AreaArnhem Land / Kakadu National Park

   Cross Cahill's Crossing on the East Alligator River into Arnhem Land with Traditional Custodians and a First Nations guide. Travel by 4WD bus through Mikkinj Valley viewing rock art sites, sandstone gorges, forests, flood plains and birdlife. Stop at Inkiyu Billabong for food.

   Day 5 · Kakadu National ParkKakadu National Park / Katherine

   Drive south with stops at Yurmikmik Lookout Walk through woodland over Jawoyn Country, then Gunlom Falls—an 85m waterfall with plunge pools and sweeping park views. Continue to Katherine for the next three nights.

   Day 6 · Nitmiluk National ParkNitmiluk National Park / Katherine

   

   Drive to Nitmiluk National Park's northern section to reach Leliyn (Edith Falls). Walk the sandy Jatbula Trail to Sweetwater Pool framed by red rocks, dip in smaller pools along the way, then cool off at the Upper Pools before returning to Katherine.

   Day 7 · Nitmiluk National ParkNitmiluk National Park / Katherine

   Head to Katherine Gorge in Nitmiluk's southern section. Your local guide offers walks of 6–12 km depending on temperature. Explore the gorge carved by the Katherine River through 20-million-year-old sandstone, noting horizontal sediment bands in the cliffs, then return to Katherine.

   Day 8 · Litchfield National ParkLitchfield National Park / Darwin

   

   Drive to Litchfield National Park to see waterfalls cascading into plunge pools ringed by thick forest. Visit Magnetic Termite Mounds, take a guide-led walk past waterfalls and billabongs, then drive back to Darwin where your trip ends. No accommodation provided tonight.

The aim of the group leader or local representative is to take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. Intrepid endeavours to provide the services of an experienced group leader or local representative however, due to the seasonality of travel, rare situations may arise where your group leader or local representative is new to a particular region or training other group leader or local representative. Your group leader or local representative will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, recommend great local eating venues and introduce you to our local friends. While not being guides in the traditional sense, you can expect them to have a broad general knowledge of the places visited on the trip, including historical, cultural, religious, and social aspects. At Intrepid we aim to support local guides who have specialised knowledge of the regions we visit. If you are interested in delving deeper into the local culture at a specific site or location then your group leader or local representative can recommend a local guide service in most of the main destinations of your trip.

• Transport: Travel across Australia often involves long distances and varied road conditions, and our vehicle selection reflects the practical demands of operating in remote and regional areas. We primarily operate our own fleet of comfortable, fit-for-purpose vehicles, including Coaster buses with trailers, mini-coaches, and, in certain regions, larger touring trucks. To ensure seamless delivery of your itinerary, we may also utilise vehicles sourced from accredited local providers, which may not display Intrepid branding. Across both our fleet and any supplementary vehicles, configurations are standardised for Australian touring conditions, prioritising reliability, and access to a wide range of destinations. As such, vehicles do not include onboard Wi Fi, reclining seats, or toilet facilities. All vehicles meet Australian safety standards and are maintained by licensed operators; however, age, configuration, and kilometres travelled may vary and may differ from touring standards in other destinations. In the case of a breakdown or other unforeseen circumstances affecting the vehicle, we reserve the right to substitute vehicles other than those specified, to ensure the operation of the itinerary.
