About this trip

Five days split between two of the Galapagos' main islands, Santa Cruz and Isabela, with a guide leading you through the wildlife that makes this archipelago what it is.

Expect time in the water snorkelling among the marine life and time on land walking volcanic terrain to find giant tortoises, iguanas, and nesting seabirds up close.

It's a fully guided group trip, straightforward in pace, built around getting you in front of the animals rather than ticking off sights.

What you'll do

  • Snorkel with colourful reef fish and marine life
  • Walk volcanic landscapes on Isabela island
  • See giant tortoises in the wild
  • Spot blue-footed boobies, frigate birds and albatrosses
  • Watch sea lions and marine iguanas on the shoreline
Good to know
  • Based across two islands, Santa Cruz and Isabela, so you do move location during the trip
  • Suits families and groups looking for a guided wildlife-focused trip rather than independent exploring

  1. Highlands – Twin Craters - Lava Tunnels — Baltra Island

Land at Baltra airport and head inland to the highlands, where Scalesia and Miconia forests stretch across the landscape. Giant tortoises roam freely here—a stark contrast to the arid lowlands. Explore lava tunnels and twin craters before settling into your Santa Cruz hotel.

  2. Early pickup for a full day on a small vessel from Puerto Ayora. Depending on conditions, you'll visit one of several sites—Santa Fe, South Plazas, North Seymour, Pinzón or Floreana—mixing hiking, snorkeling and swimming with wildlife watching. Return to Santa Cruz in the afternoon.

  3. Speed boat to Isabela at 7am (two hours). Explore the tortoise breeding centre or flamingo lagoon independently, then visit Tintoreras islet for a short hike and snorkel among penguins, marine iguanas, sea lions and reef sharks in the lava channel.

  4. Boat trip to Cabo Rosa (45 minutes each way) where lava has formed tunnels in the sea. Snorkelling is the main event—expect sharks, sea turtles, sea lions, rays, seahorses and tropical fish. Five hours total; speedboat returns you to Santa Cruz.

  5. Breakfast, then drive to Itabaca Channel for the ferry crossing. Your driver escorts you through airport check-in at Baltra before departure.
