About this trip
This 10-day route takes you through three distinct sides of Thailand: Bangkok's temples and canals, the hills and traditions around Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, and the beaches off Phuket.
You'll start in Bangkok with the Royal Palace and a floating market, then fly north for a Khantoke dinner, a trek through Mae Tang and a visit to the Golden Triangle where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet.
The final stretch is beach time, with a full-day boat tour to Phi Phi Island and a free day in Phuket to do as much or as little as you like.
What you'll do
- See the Emerald Buddha at Bangkok's Royal Grand Palace
- Explore Damnoensaduak Floating Market
- Khantoke dinner and a visit to Doi Suthep temple in Chiang Mai
- Full-day trek in Mae Tang including time at an elephant sanctuary
- Visit the Golden Triangle and explore Chiang Rai
- Full-day boat tour to Phi Phi Island
- Covers a lot of ground — Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Phuket in 10 days, with an internal flight partway through
- One free day built in at Phuket, otherwise it's a fairly packed itinerary
- Suits travellers who want a broad first look at Thailand rather than a slow, single-region stay
Worth it if you want a well-organised, guide-led introduction to Thailand's main sites. Think twice if you're assigned a poor guide in Phuket or unhappy with overcrowded boat tours.
- Guides like Ms Pond in Bangkok and Mr Air (driver) go genuinely above and beyond—extra market time, cold towels, real local insight.
- Ethical elephant sanctuary is a genuine highlight; guides flexible enough to swap long border drives for national park or extra Chiang Mai time.
- Phuket leg is weak: overcrowded speedboat with 40 people, snorkelling in crowded pools, islands rammed with tourists, overpriced drinks and toilet fees.
- Service inconsistency real—one reviewer got a disgusting hotel, refused relocation, had to pay out of pocket; company showed no accountability.
