About this trip
Eleven days moving through Thailand from north to south, covering Bangkok's temples, Chiang Mai's hills, Chiang Rai's borderlands and the beaches of Koh Samui. It's a proper mix of city, culture, jungle and coast rather than a single-pace holiday.
You start in Bangkok with the Grand Palace and a floating market, then head north to Chiang Mai for temples, a Khantoke dinner and a day trekking in the Mae Tang Valley with time at an elephant sanctuary. From there it's on to Chiang Rai and the Golden Triangle before flying back south to Koh Samui.
The final stretch is where things slow down, with kayaking and snorkelling in Angthong Marine Park, an elephant spa visit, a Thai cooking lesson, and a boat trip out to Madsum Island to finish on the sand.
What you'll do
- Visit Bangkok's Grand Palace and the Emerald Buddha
- Browse the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market
- Trek the Mae Tang Valley and spend time at an elephant sanctuary
- Explore the Golden Triangle where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet
- Kayak and snorkel in Angthong Marine Park
- Take a boat out to Madsum Island off Koh Samui
- Covers a lot of ground — expect an internal flight and several base changes between Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Koh Samui
- Suits travellers who want culture and trekking as well as beach time, rather than a straight relaxation trip
Worth it if you want genuine temple culture, elephant encounters, and island relaxation with strong guide support. Think twice if accommodation consistency matters—Bangkok guides excel but Pattaya hotels can be genuinely rough.
- Guides consistently go above and beyond; Bangkok's Cindy and Mr. Danny's responsiveness particularly praised.
- Elephant camp bathing, jungle trekking, bamboo rafting, and Khantoke cultural dinners deliver authentic experiences.
- Pattaya hotel standards problematic—one reviewer reported cockroaches, mold, flooded bathrooms, poor housekeeping.
- Coconut farm stop was brief filler; Maeklong Railway Market not officially included despite being a highlight.
