About this trip
Ten days across Morocco, starting and ending in Casablanca, taking in imperial cities, mountains, desert and coast. It's a proper loop — you'll cover a lot of ground, from the blue streets of Chefchaouen to a night camped in the Sahara.
The route runs through Rabat, Chefchaouen and Fes before crossing the Atlas Mountains into desert territory, then back through the Dades Valley, Ouarzazate and Marrakech to the Atlantic at Essaouira. Plenty of driving, but each stop earns its place.
Good for those who want the full sweep of the country in one trip rather than settling into one region — cities, mountains, dunes and beach all feature.
What you'll do
- Wander the blue-washed lanes of Chefchaouen
- Explore the medina and markets of Fes
- Camel trek into the Sahara and camp overnight under the stars
- Cross the Atlas Mountains and stop at Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah
- Take in the souks and landmarks of Marrakech
- Wind down in the coastal town of Essaouira
- Covers a lot of distance in 10 days, so expect regular travel days between stops
- One night is spent in a desert camp, the rest in towns and cities
- Suits travellers who want variety over lingering in one place
Worth it if you want a well-paced overview of Morocco's highlights with genuinely excellent drivers. Think twice if you're fussy about accommodation consistency or book during major holidays without checking closures first.
- Driver quality is exceptional; Ayoub, Zakaria, Ismail and Hecham repeatedly praised for knowledge, care and making the trip memorable.
- Riad quality varies significantly; some described as old, small, smelling bad, or simply disappointing despite others being comfortable and well-chosen.
- Extensive driving on slow, winding two-lane roads with heavy traffic means substantial time in the car; budget accordingly for fatigue.
- Several stops are vendor sales pitches disguised as cultural education; expect hard sells on pottery, rugs and tanning despite genuine interest in learning.
