About this trip
This trip combines the classic Everest Base Camp trek with a climb of Island Peak, a 6189m summit above the village of Chukhung at the head of the Imja Khola valley.
Island Peak is one of the most climbed peaks in Nepal's trekking peak category. It doesn't require technical climbing experience, but you'll need to manage snow and ice sections, and the guides teach you the basic skills before the ascent.
It's a solid entry point into mountaineering for those who already have trekking fitness and want to push on to an actual summit rather than just reach base camp.
What you'll do
- Trek through the Khumbu valley to Everest Base Camp
- Climb Island Peak (6189m) above Chukhung
- Learn basic snow climbing and rope skills before the ascent
- See summit views of Everest, Lhotse and Makalu
- Walk through Sherpa villages en route through the Everest region
- Moderate to demanding pace — this is a trek plus an actual peak climb, not just a walk to base camp
- Basic snow climbing skills are taught on route but some prior trekking fitness is expected
- High altitude throughout, with the climb itself reaching 6189m
