About this trip

A private week-long food and culture trip through Morocco, from Marrakech out to the Atlantic coast and down to the Sahara. It is built around eating well as much as sightseeing — fresh seafood, tagines, and home-style Berber cooking rather than a packed sightseeing checklist.

You travel with your own driver in a private vehicle throughout, so the pace is set by you rather than a group, and accommodation is a step up from budget.

What you'll do

  • Eat fresh seafood by the harbour in Essaouira
  • Share a traditional Berber tagine in the Ourika Valley
  • Explore historic kasbahs along the route south
  • Cross into the Sahara Desert to see the dunes
  • Travel privately with your own driver throughout
Good to know
  • Private trip — just you (and your group), not joined with other travellers
  • Partially guided, so some time is left free
  • Suits those who want comfort and good food over a fast-paced itinerary

Route map for Private Morocco Food Tour & Sahara Desert Experience from Marrakech
  1. Marrakech to Essaouira – Coastal Flavors & Medina Charm — Marrakesh

You're collected from Marrakech airport or your accommodation and driven to Essaouira, a UNESCO-listed coastal city. Walk the pristine beach, historic ramparts and Skala De La Ville, then lose yourself in the medina's souks and artisan workshops. Lunch is fresh Atlantic seafood at a local spot your driver recommends, before heading back to Marrakech for the evening.

  2. Ourika Valley – Berber Culture & Riverside Tagine Experience — Ourika

Head into the Atlas Mountains towards Ourika Valley with a local guide. You'll visit Setti Fatma waterfalls and remote Berber villages, browse the vibrant market, then eat authentic tagine by the riverside. There's time to sit by the water before the drive back to Marrakech.

  3. Marrakech to Dades Valley – Kasbahs & High Atlas Wonders — Marrakesh

Leave Marrakech over Tizi n'Tichka Pass, soaking in Atlas panoramas. You'll explore the UNESCO-listed Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou—historically and cinematically significant—then eat couscous there. Stop at Ouarzazate and its Atlas Studios before arriving in Dades Valley, boxed in by dramatic cliffs.

  4. Dades Gorge & Merzouga – A Desert Gastronomic Experience — Boumalne Dades

Drive through desert landscapes around Erfud and Rissani, visiting local markets and Saharan-Berber villages to understand regional traditions. Eat Madfouna (Berber pizza) in Rissani, then continue to Merzouga. You'll do a sunset camel trek through Erg Chebbi dunes and sleep in a luxury desert camp with traditional Moroccan food and live music.

  5. Wake early to watch sunrise over Erg Chebbi from camp. Eat a proper breakfast, then drive back to Marrakech with stops to rest and photograph the landscape. You'll arrive in the evening, still carrying the Sahara with you.

  6. A guided tour takes you through Marrakech's vibrant souks and hidden corners with a local guide. You learn to cook Tanjia, a famous local dish, in an actual kitchen, then eat what you've made at a farewell dinner.

  7. Spend the day shopping for artisanal souvenirs or exploring bits of the city you missed. Your complimentary private transfer to Menara Airport gets you out in time for your flight, bags full of flavors and memories.
