Slovenia : Hiking: Alpe Adria Trail

This is a self-guided walk through Slovenia's stretch of the Alpe-Adria-Trail, the long-distance route that runs from the foot of the Grossglockner in Austria down to the Adriatic at Muggia. Over 8 days you cover a section of it at your own pace, following waymarked paths through valleys, past lakes and rivers, without a guide walking alongside you.

The trail was built jointly by Austria, Slovenia and Italy and deliberately avoids full alpine terrain, so the walking stays on good, established paths rather than exposed high-mountain routes. It's more about steady daily distances and changing scenery than technical difficulty.

Because it's private and self-guided, it suits you if you want the structure of a set route and booked accommodation but prefer to walk as a couple or on your own without joining a group.

What you'll do

• Walk a section of the cross-border Alpe-Adria-Trail through Slovenia
• Follow paths alongside lakes, brooks and rivers on the southern side of the Alps
• Pass through Slovenian villages and countryside shaped by a mix of Austrian, Slovenian and Italian influence
• Cover daily stages on established, non-alpine hiking paths
