About this trip
Nine days moving from Kathmandu's old temples and markets to the lake town of Pokhara, then up into the hills for a short trek with some of the best views of the Annapurna range you'll get without committing to a long expedition.
You start with a settling-in day in Kathmandu, seeing its temples and monasteries and getting a feel for the city, before heading west. Pokhara serves as your base for a gentle trek up to Poon Hill, with the Annapurna Massif and its 13 peaks over 7,000 metres filling the skyline.
It's built as an accessible route through Nepal's variety — mountains, terraced villages, old towns — without demanding serious trekking experience, which makes it a reasonable fit for families or first-timers to the Himalayas.
What you'll do
- Sightsee temples and monasteries in Kathmandu
- Explore local markets and eateries in the city
- Travel west to the lakeside town of Pokhara
- Get your first views of the Annapurna Massif
- Trek to Poon Hill for sweeping Himalayan views
- Pass through terraced hills and small villages en route
- Best done September to May
- A gentle trek rather than a technical one, suited to families
- Includes a rest day in Kathmandu before the trekking starts
Worth it if you want a manageable, scenic trek with strong guiding and logistical support. Think twice if you're sensitive to Nepal's road conditions and basic lodge standards.
- Sunrise at Poon Hill and rhododendron forest scenery genuinely deliver; guides like Himesh earn consistent praise.
- Nepal's road conditions are poor and will rattle you; some trek lodges are genuinely basic, not Instagram-ready.
- Nine days lets you experience Pokhara, villages, and mountains without exhausting yourself; physically doable for most fitness levels.
- Nepal Social Treks handles logistics tightly: airport pickup, pre-trek briefing, currency exchange, porter support all coordinated.
