About this trip
This trek takes you through the Langtang region, tracing an old trading route used by the Tamang people rather than the busier trails toward the main base camps. Expect long days walking between villages, with Langtang Lirung and Ganesh Himal rarely out of view.
You start with a drive to Syabrubesi, then walk through Gatlang and Tatopani, where a natural hot spring gives the village its name, before climbing to Nagthali for sunset over the snow peaks. The route ends around Briddim, a village built around Tamang homestays.
It is as much about the people as the mountains. Along the way you pick up glimpses of Tamang life and customs, which have close ties to Tibetan culture, in monasteries, hamlets and quiet forest trails.
