Mardi Himal Trek

Kathmandu → Pokhara 7 days Up to 9

About this trip

This trek takes you into one of the quieter corners of the Annapurna region, away from the busier trails, climbing steadily from Pokhara through oak, magnolia and rhododendron forest.

You camp at alpine sites with uninterrupted views of Machapuchare's sacred fluted peak and the wider Annapurna range, before pushing higher into a landscape of cliffs and glaciers fed by its snowy flanks.

The return route drops through Gurung villages that see few visitors and keep much of their traditional character, a contrast to the wilderness of the days before.

What you'll do

  • Ascend through forests of oak, magnolia and rhododendron from Pokhara
  • Camp at alpine sites facing Machapuchare and the Annapurna range
  • Trek into glacier and cliff terrain below Machapuchare's snowy flanks
  • Spot bird life along the forest trails and streams
  • Pass through seldom-visited Gurung villages on the descent
Good to know
  • Moderate altitude trek with camping rather than teahouse stays
  • Suits those wanting a quieter, more remote route than the main Annapurna trails
  • Pace involves sustained daily ascents through forest and alpine terrain
