About this trip
This is Everest Base Camp done at pace, ten days from Kathmandu to Kathmandu covering the same ground many treks take longer over. You fly into Lukla and head up through the Khumbu, gaining altitude quickly, which makes the days rewarding but demands a reasonable level of fitness and a positive attitude about the cold and thin air.
You're in Sherpa country here, walking through villages shaped by Buddhist tradition, with lodge stays along the way rather than camping. The trek tops out at Kala Patthar before dropping to Everest Base Camp itself, both well above 5,000 metres.
What you'll do
- Scenic 35-minute flight between Kathmandu and Lukla
- Trek through Sherpa villages of the Khumbu region
- Reach Everest Base Camp at 5,365m
- Climb Kala Patthar for views at 5,545m
- Stay in local lodges along the trail
- Pass Buddhist monasteries and prayer sites tied to Sherpa culture
- Fast-paced route with significant altitude gain in a short time, graded moderate to adventurous
- Best done March to May or October to December, outside the monsoon
- Mornings and nights get properly cold, especially at higher altitude stops
Worth it if you're fit, flexible on pace, and value attentive guides. Think twice if you need predictable 5-hour days or can't handle 7-9 hour treks with evening acclimatisation hikes.
- Guides like Tirtha, Balram and Sagar are genuinely knowledgeable, proactive problem-solvers who manage logistics seamlessly.
- Advertised 5-6 hour days routinely stretch to 7-9 hours with breaks; Day 7 (Base Camp to Kala Patthar to Pangboche) is punishing.
- Flight cancellations to Lukla are common; helicopter fallback exists but costs significantly more than advertised price.
- Company owner Dhruba personally meets clients, guides handle altitude management advice and route tweaks based on your wellbeing.
