About this trip

Eight days across Slovenia and Croatia, taking in caves, lakes and coastline without rushing between them.

You'll move between a handful of well-known spots — from the underground passages at Postojna to the still waters of Bled and Plitvice — with time built in to just look around rather than tick boxes.

Istria rounds things off with some proper regional food, so there's a mix of nature and local flavour rather than one long sightseeing list.

What you'll do

  • Explore the cave system at Postojna
  • See Lake Bled
  • Walk through Plitvice Lakes National Park
  • Taste local food and wine in Istria
Good to know
  • Rated easy, so this suits a relaxed pace rather than a physical challenge
  • Partially guided — some sections you'll explore with a leader, others on your own
  • Billed as family-friendly, so expect a broad mix of ages in the group

Route map for Explore Slovenia & Croatia
  1. Arrival in Ljubljana — Ljubljana

You'll arrive in Ljubljana and get a private transfer to your accommodation. The rest of the day is yours to settle in and explore at your own pace.

  2. A guide takes you through Slovenia's capital, hitting Prešeren Square, Triple Bridge, the fish market and town hall. You'll ride the funicular up to Ljubljana Castle for the history and views, then have the afternoon free to wander solo.

  3. Zagreb — Ljubljana

You'll drive into Croatia and walk through Zagreb's historic core—Gornji Grad and Kaptol—with their medieval churches, palaces and museums. The afternoon is free to explore the city yourself.

  4. Plitvice - Opatija — Plitvice Lakes National Park

Plitvice Lakes National Park dominates the day: 16 emerald-turquoise lakes connected by waterfalls, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1949. After lunch you'll head to the Adriatic coast and settle into Opatija, a 19th-century seaside resort.

  5. You'll explore Istria, the peninsula shared by three countries. Rovinj is a picturesque Mediterranean town built on an island; you'll visit an agritourism farm for local tastings, then walk Poreč's narrow streets before returning to the hotel with free time by the sea.

  6. Predjama Castle, a Renaissance fortress built within a cave, comes first. Then you'll enter Postojna Cave—the only cave in the world with a train running through it. After lunch you'll head to the Julian Alps with free time in the mountains.

  7. Bled and Bohinj — Bled

Bled's lake and island are visited by traditional pletna boat, with views of the castle on the cliff. You'll take a funicular up Mt Vogel above Bohinj, Slovenia's largest alpine lake, then have lunch and free time by the shore before returning to your hotel.

  8. You have free time in Ljubljana before heading to the airport for your flight home.
