About this trip

This eight-day route links Munich, Nuremberg, Salzburg and Prague, using Munich as your base for the first stretch before heading onward by train.

You start in Munich, then take day trips out to Nuremberg and Salzburg and back, so you get two cities without changing hotels. From there you travel by train to Prague, with a stop at a Czech spa town known for its hot springs along the way.

It's an easy-paced, partially guided trip, timed around Christmas and New Year, which suits families or groups wanting a mix of structure and free time in each city.

  1. Arrival to Munich — Munich

    Arrive at Munich International Airport or train station where a driver meets you for transfer to your hotel.

  2. After breakfast, join a 2.5-hour guided walking tour of Munich's Altstadt starting at 10:15. You'll visit Marienplatz, Viktualien Market, the Royal Residence, Opera House, Odeonsplatz and Maximilian Street, plus beer halls and churches, learning about the city's Nazi history.

  3. Nuremberg Tour from Munich — Munich

    Head to the meeting point for a 10-hour day trip departing at 08:30 (Wednesday or Saturday). Take the express train to Nuremberg in under two hours, tour the Imperial Castle with a guide, then have free time to explore the city independently.

  4. Salzburg Tour  from Munich — Munich

    Depart at 09:00 for a nine-hour day trip to Salzburg. You'll see the Dom Cathedral, St. Peter's church and Mirabell Gardens, plus medieval fortresses, alpine scenery and iconic film locations from the day excursion.

  5. Travel by Train from Munich to Prague — Munich

    Check out of your Munich hotel and arrange your own transfer to Munich Central Train Station. Travel by second-class train to Prague, arriving at Prague Central Train Station where you make your own way to your hotel.

  6. Join the Prague Hop-on Hop-off Bus Tour departing at 09:40 from the nearest stop to your hotel. You get a headset audio guide in 17 languages, access to one or two route lines, and a 50% discount on butterfly house entry.

  7. Your guide picks you up from your hotel at 09:00 for a nine-and-a-half-hour trip to Karlovy Vary spa town (Wednesday, Saturday or Sunday). Travel by modern bus and learn about the film festival and healing spa waters; tastings and spa admission cost extra.

  8. Check out of your Prague hotel after breakfast. Your driver collects you for transfer to the airport or train station.
