Cape Town to Kenya

Cape Town → Nairobi 49 days Up to 22

About this trip

This is a 49-day overland journey from Cape Town to Nairobi, crossing the width of southern and East Africa by purpose-built truck. You'll move through desert, savanna, and mountain terrain, camping most nights as part of a small group who pitch in with the day-to-day running of camp.

Wildlife is a constant thread — from Etosha to Chobe to the Serengeti — alongside standout moments like the dunes at Sossusvlei, the spray of Victoria Falls, and a mokoro trip through the Okavango Delta. There's also space for slower, human-scale encounters, including a community project that turns poachers' snares into jewellery.

This is proper overlanding: long travel days, early starts for game drives or to beat traffic, and nights with no facilities in remote bush camps. The route can shift with weather and road conditions, so flexibility matters as much as fitness.

What you'll do

  • Watch sunrise over the dunes at Sossusvlei
  • Spot elephants and rhinos on safari in Etosha, Chobe, and the Serengeti
  • Feel the spray at Victoria Falls
  • Glide through the Okavango Delta in a traditional mokoro
  • Visit a community project turning snares into jewellery
  • Hike to Irente viewpoint in the Usambara Mountains
Good to know
  • Participatory overland camping — you'll help set up tents and pitch in with camp chores
  • Expect early starts and long, sometimes unpredictable travel days
  • Some nights are spent in remote bush camps with no facilities, including camping in the Serengeti
