About this trip

Thirteen days moving through Athens and five Cycladic islands — Syros, Paros, Naxos, Ios and Santorini — with two nights in each place. Ferries and transfers between islands are arranged for you, so the logistics are handled and the days are yours to fill.

This is self-guided rather than led — no group, no set itinerary beyond the route and the hotel bookings. You decide each day whether that means a beach, a village wander, or doing nothing much at all.

One fixed event breaks up the free time: a sunset cruise in Santorini. Otherwise expect a loose rhythm of ferries, breakfasts, and time to explore each island at your own pace.

What you'll do

  • Sunset cruise off Santorini
  • Island-hop by ferry through Syros, Paros, Naxos and Ios
  • Time in Athens before heading out to the islands
  • Beach days on each of the five islands
  • Explore the villages of the Cyclades independently
Good to know
  • Self-guided — you're not travelling with a group or a guide, just following a pre-set route
  • Base changes every two nights across six stops, so it suits people who like a bit of movement over settling in one spot
  • Accommodation is standard hotels, breakfast included; other meals are on you

  2. An early 6am transfer takes you to Piraeus port to catch the ferry to Paros. After arriving and checking into your hotel, you have the afternoon and evening free.

  3. Paros offers numerous beaches—Chrissi Akti, Pounda, Kolympithres, Santa Maria—and the village of Naousa with its half-submerged Venetian Castle is worth the visit. Explore traditional settlements for views, eat local food paired with island wine, and stay for the nightlife.

  4. You have a free day until your transfer to Paros port to ferry across to Naxos. Once you arrive and reach your hotel, the rest of the day is unscheduled.

  5. Wander through Naxos's old Venetian Castle where Cycladic architecture meets Venetian buildings, then explore the stone villages of Aperathos and Filoti with their Early Christian churches. Swim at Plaka or Agios Prokopios beaches and eat local food at tavernas.

  6. You have a free day until transfer to Naxos port for the ferry to Ios. After arriving and reaching your hotel, you're free to settle in.

  7. Ios has excellent European beaches; Magganari is particularly good with sandy coves and clear water. Climb through Chora village to see the Bronze Age settlement ruins at Skarkos and the cliff-top church of Panagia Gremniotissa, then hit the bars and clubs for Ios's famous nightlife.

  8. A free day until you're transferred to Ios port to ferry to Santorini. After checking into your hotel, the evening is yours.

  9. A six-hour wooden boat sunset cruise departs from Athinios port. You'll sail to Nea Kameni to walk and learn about the volcano's history and geology (1.5 hours), then stop at Palea Kameni for 30 minutes to swim in the famous hot springs.

  10. You have a free day until transfer to Santorini port for the ferry to Syros. Once you arrive and check in, the rest of the day is unscheduled.

  11. Syros's amphitheatric capital Ermoupoli has the distinctive blue-domed Agios Nikolaos church and St George's cathedral in the Roman Catholic quarter with Aegean views. The island has multiple beaches—Vari, Foínikas, Yalissas, Kíni, Poseidonia—ranging from sandy to pebbled.

  12. You'll be transferred to Syros port for the ferry back to Piraeus, arriving around midnight, then transferred to your Athens hotel.

  13. After breakfast at your hotel, you have the day free before your private transfer to Athens International Airport four hours before your flight.

What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want to tick off multiple Greek islands efficiently with solid hotels. Think twice if you need accommodation walkable to town amenities.

  • Gotta hotel in Naxos stood out as exceptionally friendly; port transfers were reliably excellent throughout.
  • Paros accommodation was isolated 1.6km from town along dark, windy roads with no nearby facilities.
  • Covers a genuinely impressive range of Greek islands and beaches in one trip.
  • Late-trip heat can be intense; pack accordingly and stay hydrated.
