About this trip
Three days that combine the Sacred Valley's ruins and markets with a short but proper stretch of the Inca Trail, ending at Machu Picchu the way it was meant to be reached — on foot, through the Sun Gate.
Day one takes you round the valley's main sites before the hike itself, a walk through cloud forest past the ruins of Wiñay Wayna. You reach Machu Picchu in time to see it at sunset, then go back the next morning for sunrise before heading home.
The return leg is on the Vistadome train, with large windows for the valley and mountain scenery on the way back.
What you'll do
- Visit Pisac, Moray, Maras and Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley
- Hike a section of the Inca Trail through cloud forest to Wiñay Wayna
- Walk into Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate
- See the citadel at sunset, then return the next morning for sunrise
- Travel back on the Vistadome train through the Andes
- Involves a genuine hike with some altitude and uneven terrain, so a reasonable level of fitness helps
- Two separate visits to Machu Picchu are included, sunset and sunrise
- A short, fast-moving trip rather than a slow explore
